Year one in review:

or how I learned to stop worrying and love small buisiness ownership

I registered TreeLilys INC May 21, 2021. This year, 2022, is the first full calendar year of being a full-time small business owner and artist. I have learned A LOT in this time and I wanted to share this information with you. This is my own experience and does not reflect everyones. With that in mind, let’s begin.

Lessons

  1. Save for the lean times

  2. Bring Snacks

  3. Not every opportunity is a good fit

  4. Watch for scams

  5. Keep your self-worth separate from your business

  6. Network

  7. Pack a fix-it-kit

  8. Be kind

  9. Ask for help

  10. Simplify

  11. Follow up

  12. Flexibility is key

Save for the Lean Times

Below is a graph featuring my gross monthly income- notice January.

This is normal- don’t freak out. In January, no one shops. Everyone is burnt out from Christmas and hold their purse strings tight. This is the lean time. Make sure to save enough to cover your expenses for this month at least. Market season really starts back up again with Valentine’s Day events.
